Maier Racing: Ford Mustang Performance Parts

By:

Published: July 23, 2007

Back when performance parts for the Ford Mustang where hard to come by, an entrepreneur named Bill Maier had a solution. He founded Maier Racing in 1969. Like countless other automotive corporations, Maier Racing's website gives customers some insight into the history of the company, but also allows them to see who exactly is making the performance parts they are buying. A couple employees are pictured along with a brief piece about where they came from and what they do at Maier racing.
Maier Racing's catalog splits between old (1964-1973) and new (1979-2004) Ford Mustangs, and then further into suspension and fiberglass categories. The fiberglass catalog includes wings and spoilers, hoods, interior accessorizing, fenders and flares. A tail light panel costs just over $300 for a 1967 version of the famous Ford sports car. For 1969 and 1970 Mustangs, the rear panels are slightly less expensive (both run $219.95). In the new model category, a hatchback wing for 1979-1993 Ford Mustangs sells for $404.95.
Mustang racing aficionados may be more concerned with what is under the hood than the look of the hood itself. Maier Racing designs suspension performance parts for the majority of Ford Mustang models, years 1964 to 1998. Once again paying attention to the many details of a Ford's suspension system, Maier Racing offers bushings, sway bars, leaf springs, control arms and more. Sway bars for late model Fords run from $335 to $360, while most early model sway bars cost around $110 (although a couple three-way-adjustable rear sway bars go for a pricier $230).
If a customer owns a vintage Ford Mustang and wants to keep it running with quality parts, Maier Racing will not charge more just because it is an older vehicle. Generally speaking, performance parts for older Ford Mustangs will share similar costs with the same parts for newer models. 1.5-inch and 3-inch flared front fenders for 1979-1993 Mustangs are priced at $634.95 a pair; 1.5-inch flared fenders for a 1965 or 1966 model are exactly the same price. There is no finders fee or any extra cost for older parts one might incur at another dealer. This is because Maier Racing makes the parts themselves, so not only does the part fit the classic car, but it will last long because it is brand new.
One section of Maier Racing's catalog a Ford Mustang lover may want to note is the E-kits sold. The Eleanor Kits, as they are called, for 1967 and 1968 Mustangs are sold in their entirety or by individual parts. Maier Racing's Fastback E-kit package runs for $3,900, and the convertible/coupe package comes in at $3,750. The kits include the hood, front and rear flares, upper and lower scoops and nose sections, side skirts and tail light panel. Buying these parts individually costs exactly the same as the convertible/coupe E-kit package.
Maier Racing is continually adding new products to their already extensive catalog of fiberglass parts. They are not saying what is coming next, only that more details are coming soon, according to the new products section of the website. Pictures and descriptions of just some of Maier Racing's satisfied customers are available on their website's customer rides section. Mustang racing fans can see hot rides belonging to people like Frank Stagnaro from Petuluma, California. His 1965 Fastback Mustang, sporting an assortment of parts manufactured by Maier Racing, shows Maier's parts are suitable for high speed or everyday use in almost any Ford Mustang.
